Andrew Wiggins had a successful performance with the Golden State Warriors last season. The former number one overall pick turned himself into one of the best two-way player in the league. Wiggins averaged 18.6 points, 4.9 rebounds, 2.4 assists, 1 steal and 1 block in 33 minutes per game last season.
Wiggins is expected to help the Warriors make the playoffs this upcoming season. With a healthy Klay Thompson, the Warriors could push a deep playoff run once again.
But it seems the Warriors will have one major problem before the start of the season. Andrew Wiggins is refusing to get vaccinated and that might push him to miss half of the regular season games.
The city of San Francisco, where Golden State is located, is requiring the vaccine for anyone who participates in indoor entertainment and that includes basketball games.
The San Francisco Department of Public Health will not comment on Wiggins’ situation unless he’s officially given a religious exemption.
“We are actively addressing the matter of requests for religious exemption from vaccinations across many industries and will work with our business and entertainment community on next steps,” the San Francisco Department of Public Health said in a statement. “We will provide further clarification on this topic.”
There is a belief that the Warriors forward will be granted a religious exemption from the NBA, but the San Francisco city government has the power to override that exemption. Let’s see what will happen before the start of 2021-22 NBA season.
