Anthony Edwards is one of the bright spots for the Minnesota Timberwolves. The 2020 1st overall pick had a great debut season last year averaging 19.3 points, 4.7 rebounds, 2.9 assists and 1.1 steals in 31.2 minutes per game.
Edwards has a big body for his size. He was measured 6’4 and 225 lbs before entering the NBA. This week, his Minnesota Timberwolves coach Chris Finch revealed that Edwards has grown about 2 inches more since the Timberwolves drafted him last year.
If that is true, Edwards will be listed 6’6 for the upcoming season. The young Wolves’ guard was loving it as he jokingly said to his coach that he’ll be Michael Jordan if he will reach 6’6.
“He told me don’t let me get to 6-6 or I’ll be Michael Jordan.” Finch said.
Last year, Edwards received an advice from Michael Jordan. The Chicago Bulls legend and six-time NBA champion said that Edwards is bigger and more athletic than him.
“It was mostly just, ‘Use your butt more in the post, in the mid-post,’” Edwards said. “I feel like that was the best thing he told me. He was like, ‘You’re stronger than I am. You’re more athletic. You’re bigger than me. Use your butt more and create more space and you’re gonna be unguardable.'”
Michael Jordan could be right. Edwards might be more athletic than him. The high-scoring guard showed some glimpses of his athleticism last season. He had an insane poster dunk against Yuta Watanabe of Toronto Raptors that might won the ‘Dunk of the Year.
He even had moments where he blocked Jimmy Butler and Russell Westbrook’s layup attempt.
Edwards is one of the funniest player in the league right now. He has a lot of funny interviews last season. He was just joking that he could be Michael Jordan if he will reach the height of 6’6.
It is true that it’s very hard to get on MJ’s level with all the achievements he got during his NBA career but Edwards has a lot of potential and still has a lot of time to get there.
