Gilbert Arenas On Russell Westbrook Being Called A Stat Chaser: “That S*it Ain’t Simple”

In an episode of Gilbert Arenas’ podcast “No Chill with Gilbert Arenas”, former NBA All-Star Baron Davis and Arenas talked about the point guards.

The episode titled ‘The Point God’, the two talked about the battles of Gilbert Arenas and Mike Bibby, the hardest point guards to defend, how Baron Davis end up playing for New York Knicks, LeBron James vs. Michael Jordan and Russell Westbrook being called a ‘stat chaser’.

At the 30:00 mark of the episode uploaded by Fubo Sports on their YouTube account, ‘Agent Zero’ explained that Westbrook getting triple-doubles almost every other night ain’t easy.

“That s*it ain’t simple. Oh, he’s ‘stat chasing.’ You mean he’s like actually physically going to get a rebound. You know if it was that easy, then motherfu*king every center would have 20 rebounds a game. This s*it is hard. It takes effort, and it takes energy. It takes all of that to try to go up there and grab 10 rebounds.

The former Wizard also added that he couldn’t understand those ones that say Westbrook is just stat chasing and that’s why he get his triple-doubles.

That’s what I don’t understand when they say ‘stat chasing.’ I don’t understand it because it doesn’t make sense, cause they’re only using it for him. What was Magic Johnson doing with his assists? He has a fast-break layup, and then he throws sit to get the extra assist. What was Steve Nash doing when he had 17 assists and he was trying to get to 22? He’s stat-chasing those assists.”

Westbrook now owns the record for most triple-doubles in NBA history. The new Lakers’ point guard had also averaged triple doubles in four of the last five NBA seasons. He and Oscar Robertson and are the only two players ever to average a triple-double for a season, with Robertson achieving the feat once.
