Chicago Bulls legend Horace Grant played with many superstars during his 17-year NBA career but Grant’s greatest teammate was Michael Jordan.
The four-time NBA champion also played with Shaquille O’Neal, Kobe Bryant, Grant Hill and Penny Hardaway.
Penny Hardaway was one of the NBA’s biggest ‘what ifs’ today. The do-it-all guard was one of the most exciting players to watch in the mid-90’s.
Hardaway had an impressive first four years in the league, averaging more than 21 points, 4 rebounds and almost 7 assists from 1995-1997 until he went down with injuries. The league never saw the same Penny back again.
Horace Grant recently appeared in ‘The Universe Galaxy’ podcast, he said something that will raise the eyebrows of the Lakers’ fans. In the interview, Grant said that he would rather play with Hardaway than Bryant.
“Talent? Oh man, that’s very tricky. They’re both right there. I can’t say one is more talented.”
“Without a doubt,” Grant said when asked if Penny could have reached Kobe’s levels if it weren’t for injuries. “I’m talking about 6’7”, 6’8” can see the floor, three-pointers, drive to the basket, assists, you name it. All-around game.”
The four-time NBA champion explained the reason why he picked Penny over Kobe.
“They were both fine with me man. If I had to pick, I would say Penny. Penny, you can go up and say, ’Yo, Penny, I need a couple of shots, man.’ ‘Ok, alright, imma get you the ball.’ Kobe would say, ‘Hey, get it off the rebound’.”
