After spending the last three years with the Cleveland Cavaliers, Larry Nance Jr. will have a new team this upcoming NBA season after being traded by the Cavaliers to the Portland Trail Blazers last August.
Nance Jr. was part of a three-team trade that sent Lauri Markkanen to Cavaliers while Derrick Jones Jr., Blazers’ first-round pick and Cavs’ second-round pick went to Chicago.
Nance Jr. averaged nine points, seven rebounds, two assists and one steal during the three and a half years he played in Cleveland. Nance Jr. was grateful for the three years he spent with Cleveland. He even wrote a letter to reflect his time with his hometown team.
The 6’7 forward even gave a personalized note along with a bottle of wine to the front office of the Cavaliers. Cleveland Cavaliers analyst and @FearTheSword editory Evan Dammarell even revealed Larry’s message to Cavs front office on Twitter.
“Larry Nance Jr. gave a personalized note along with a bottle of wine for every member of Cleveland’s front office before he left. He also said, “Thank you for rescuing me from LA.” per Cavs GM Coby Altman.
Nance Jr.’s message seems to be a shot at Los Angeles Lakers where he started his NBA career. He was drafted by the Lakers as the 27th overall pick in the 2015 NBA draft and even had the chance to play one full season with the late great Kobe Bryant.
Nance Jr was traded by the Lakers to the Cavaliers along with Jordan Clarkson after two and a half seasons before NBA trade deadline in 2018, denying him a contract extension. The Lakers was already preparing for a big free agency signing that time and they did sign Nance former teammate in Cleveland, LeBron James.
Nance will have a fresh start on his career and will also have a chance to contend in the playoffs with his new team, the Portland Trail Blazers. Nance will have a better team now with Damian Lillard, CJ McCollum, Norman Powell, Robert Covington and Jusuf Nurkic as the main players.
