The Los Angeles Lakers improved their roster for the upcoming season mostly by adding veterans. The Lakers have the most player with a minimum age of 35 years old on their roster. Many critiques said that the Lakers won’t have a deep playoff run because of they were ‘too old’.
Frank Vogel recently addressed the issue during his interview on Spectrum SportsNet’s Lakers Podcast. The Lakers coach explained that age has nothing to do on player’s productivity.
“I’m not asked, I’m told that we’re old… I’m in my mid-30s, I like that… It sounds wonderful.”
“I don’t really like the narrative. I don’t. These guys can play. We have great players on our team. Yes, some of them are towards the end of their career. But, they’re still producing at a high level. If you’re producing at a high level, it doesn’t matter how old you are.”
Former NBA Slam Dunk champion Vince Carter said he loves Vogel’s comment regarding the Lakers are ‘too old’ narrative.
During the episode of ESPN’s ‘The Jump’, Vince Carter and Zach Lowe talked about Frank Vogel’s comments on the Lakeshow Podcast about the Los Angeles Lakers’ roster filled with experienced NBA players.
“Oh, I love to hear it. I love to hear it. I’ve been saying this for a lot of years. We don’t look at the years. We look at the player. What are your eyes telling you? Your eyes are telling you that player can produce. Not because of their age. Because they can get it done – regardless of their age.”
Carter is one of the player with most seasons played in NBA history. Sure thing, Carter appreciates players on their mid 30’s as he himself also played twenty-two seasons in the league. Carter still contributed on his team during his mid to late 30’s and even played in the NBA until the age of 43 years old/
