After spending the first four years of his young NBA career with the Los Angeles Lakers, Kyle Kuzma will have a fresh start with his new team this upcoming NBA season.
Kuzma had a poor performance last season. The one-time NBA champion struggled playing behind Lakers’ superstars LeBron James and Anthony Davis and even with the two superstars were out, Kuzma failed to produce for his former team.
The 27th pick of 2017 NBA draft averaged 12.9 points, 6.1 rebounds and 1.5 assists on 28.7 minutes per game last season. He shot 43% from the field, 36% from behind the arc and 69% from the charity stripe.
After averaging a career-high 18.7 points on his second season with the Lakers, Kuzma’s points per game went down to just 12 points since the arrival of Lakers big man Anthony Davis. Before the arrival of AD, Kuzma was given a lot of opportunities, he even scored 41 points once in just three quarters.
During the Washington Wizards’ media day, Kuzma revealed that he wanted to be traded from the Lakers.
“For me, wanting to get traded, and be in a type of situation where I can really spread my wings and develop a certain type of trajectory that I was on prior.”
He explained that he wanted to go somewhere else where he can do what he’s capable of doing inside the court. Kuzma was once considered as one of the best young talents in the NBA but after his average performance the past two years, the 26-year-old forward fell off.
Kuzma was traded by the Lakers alongside Montrezl Harrell and Kentavious Caldwell-Pope to the Washington Wizards for Russell Westbrook.
