In an episode of Shannon Sharpe’s ‘Club Shay Shay’, Sharpe and TNT broadcaster Mark Jackson talked about player empowerment in the NBA.
The former NBA coach said that Los Angeles Lakers’ superstar LeBron James doesn’t get enough credit for changing the game.
“LeBron James changed the game, and he doesn’t get enough credit for that. He changed the game not only as a basketball player, but he changed the game as a businessman. He allowed guys to realize the power that they have…
LeBron changed the game for guys to understand the power that they have as a businessman and making the right decisions. So when Kevin Durant decides he wants to go to Golden State, that is alright. And then he decides he wants to leave Golden State and go to Brooklyn, and it’s alright. People realize it’s their future and their legacy, so they have to make the right decision.”
Jackson added that James changed the way NBA players decide about their future. James started it when he joined the Miami Heat in 2010, went home to Cleveland in 2014 and the surprisingly joined the Los Angeles Lakers in 2018.
NBA superstars like like Kevin Durant, Kyrie Irving, Anthony Davis, Russell Westbrook and James Harden are doing the same thing. They think about themselves first rather than being loyal to their team. After all, NBA is still a business.
