A video of Los Angeles Lakers’ superstar LeBron James shouting some words to Phoenix Suns’ guard Cameron Payne went viral last month.
The Lakers were down big in the game at the Staples Center. James were sitting on the bench and appeared shouting words of advice to Payne.
“Stay humble now, stay humble,” James said to Payne. “Come on now. You was at home a year and half ago. Now you want to pop off? Don’t do that.”
James were referring to Payne’s situation before the NBA bubble in Orlando in 2020 where Payne was out of the league and just recently played in China.
The Suns signed Payne as the back-up point guard for the then Suns starting PG Ricky Rubio. The Suns went on undefeated in the bubble (8-0) but failed to advance in the playoffs.
The Suns went on the NBA Finals season but loses to the eventual champion Milwaukee Bucks in six games. Payne then signed a three-year, $19.5 million deal to stay in Phoenix.
The fiery Suns guard had the chance to talk about the viral video. He revealed that he he wasn’t even talking to James.
“I wasn’t even talking to Bron,” Payne said Friday afternoon, via USA Today. “That’s the crazy part. I wasn’t even talking to him.”
Whatever Payne said during the Suns-Lakers game, James took it personally and fired back at the 6’1 point guard.
Payne was asked if he was surprised by the words of LeBron.
“It did surprise me because I’m very humble,” said Payne.
He admitted that he was shocked because he’s a very humble guy.
