Kevin Porter Jr. made the game-winning buzzer beater three-pointer last night to lift the Houston Rockets to a 114-111 win over the Wizards in Washington.
Porter Jr. made the game-winner after serving a one-game suspension from the team.
After Kevin Porter Jr. hit a clutch shot to give the Houston Rockets the win, Wizards broadcaster Glenn Consor made a controversial comments about it.
“You’ve got to give credit,” Consor said on the broadcast. “Kevin Porter Jr., like his dad, pulled that trigger right at the right time.”
Kevin Porter Sr., the real father of KPJ, pleaded guilty to first-degree manslaughter in a shooting of a 14-year-old girl in 1993. He passed away in 2004 after being shot at a bar.
Consor drew the ire of NBA fans and players because of the choice of words he said after Porter Jr.’s game-winner.
He even caught the attention of Los Angeles Lakers’ superstar LeBron James. James tweeted his feelings regarding the incident.
“Oh he thought this was cool huh!!?? Nah we ain’t going for this,” James tweeted. “Sorry but this ain’t going to fly! How insensitive can you be to say something like this. Beat it man! I pray for you but there’s no place in our beautiful game for you.”
Consor said that he already apologized to Kevin Porter Jr. and explained that it was a mistaken identity. Consor apparently thought Kevin Porter Jr.’s father was former NBA player and Wizards’ legend Kevin Porter.
“Please allow me to take this opportunity to sincerely apologize to Kevin Porter Jr., his family and the Rockets organization for the comments I made during last night’s game,” Consor wrote on Twitter. “
I mistakenly thought that Kevin was the son of former Washington player Kevin Porter and was unaware that the words I chose to describe his game-winning shot would be in any way hurtful or insensitive. I have reached out to Kevin to personally apologize and hope to be able to talk with him soon.”
KPJ has yet to issue as statement regarding the incident.
